Edwin H. Land, founder of Polaroid, leaves Harvard University after his freshman year to conduct scientific investigations of the application of polarizing light filters. Three years later, Land makes his first patent application for polarizers that reduce headlight glare.
Edwin H. Land establishes Land-Wheelwright Laboratories in Boston with his former Harvard physics professor, George Wheelwright III and carries on research into the possible application of polarizers in sunglasses, filters, and automobile headlights.

While on vacation with his family, Land's 3-year-old daughter asks why she can't see the picture he has just taken of her. That day, Land conceives of the instant camera.

Edwin H. Land announces his invention of the instant-picture process, the first one-step dry process for producing finished photographs within one minute after taking the picture, at a meeting of the Optical Society of America on February 21.
On November 26, 1948, the first Land camera was sold for $89.95 at Jordan Marsh department store in Boston, Massachusetts. The Model 95 Land camera becomes the prototype for all Polaroid Land cameras produced during the next 15 years.

Polaroid debuts Polacolor instant color film. Intensive research leads to Land and his associate Howard Rogers’ invention of the dye developer molecule upon which the instant color system is based.

Polaroid releases the Model 100 Land camera, the first fully automatic pack film and exposure control camera.

The stylish and low-priced Polaroid Swinger camera is released and is extremely successful with a younger generation. Polaroid underwrites its first educational television program, “The French Chef,” with Julia Child which wins an Emmy for best educational television program.

Dr. Land demonstrates a revolutionary system of photography which includes the SX-70 Land camera, a fully automatic, motorized, folding, single lens reflex camera and SX-70 Land film which automatically self-develops in daylight. Sir Lawrence Olivier becomes the spokesman for Polaroid’s SX-70 camera in a series of television, radio, and print advertisements. Life Magazine features the camera and Edwin H. Land on the front cover. 
La galerie Clarence Kennedy ouvre à Cambridge et devient le showroom officiel de tous les photographes avant-gardistes utilisant les appareils Polaroid.

Les ventes d’appareils Polaroid dépassent les 6 millions d’unités. Les appareils photo instantanés 20×24 et 40×48 sont développés dans le but de produire des photographies artistiques de haute qualité. The Polaroid OneStep Land camera debuts. This inexpensive, fixed-focus camera becomes the best-selling camera, instant or conventional, in America shortly after it is introduced. James Garner becomes television spokesman for Polaroid cameras. Dr. Land is awarded his 500th US patent at the US Patent Office and is inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

Polaroid introduces the new 600 Sun system: the Sun Autofocus 660 and the Sun 640 cameras with built-in and light management electronics, and 600 High Speed color Land film, the world's fastest instant color print film. The Muppets debut in a number of commercial and print ads for Polaroid, including the famous Miss Piggy's Birthday and Fozzie's Christmas Present.

The Polaroid Captiva camera and film system, an ultra-compact format designed for instant portraits, debuts. Well-known actor comedian Sinbad appears in Polaroid commercials launching the Captive camera products. 
A modern Polaroid OneStep Express is reissued in 1997 with a rounded body and in various color options.

Polaroid introduces the Polaroid iZone, an instant pocket-sized camera in a wide range of bright colors. The camera's thumbnail-sized prints become a hit amongst teens.
The Polaroid PoGo instant mobile printer debuts in the US. Polaroid Corporation partners with ZINK® Zero Ink® Printing Technology and manufacturers of ZINK Paper®.

The TimeZero Smartwatch joins the CE Polaroid range.

The Polaroid Cube debuts as the newest and smallest Polaroid lifestyle action camera. The 35mm camera is weatherproof, shockproof, and mountable and packed with 1080p HD video, 124° wide-angle lens, and built-in battery that records up to 90 minutes. 

Other new products enter the Polaroid range of CE products : new instant camera Polaroid Socialmatic, new tablets Rainbow+ with colorful interchangeable cases, 4G and Android smartphones, drones with built-in action cameras, and 4K UHD TVs.

The Polaroid Snap Touch instant digital camera launches. Including Wi-Fi and ZINK® Zero Ink® Printing Technology, it's easier than ever to share life's greatest moments instantly. 

And so does the Notebook Pro Serie 14.1”, thanks to its ultra-portable design.

September 13, 2017 marks the 80th Anniversary of the founding of Polaroid by Edwin Land in 1937. 

Polaroid Originals launches and introduces the Polaroid OneStep2 instant analog camera. Polaroid Originals film debuts, bringing back integral film for legacy instant analog cameras and new i-Type cameras.
